What Family Dentistry Services Do We Provide?

Family dentistry focuses on treating potential dental issues before they arise. Family dentistry starts out with dental cleanings and exams. Oral cancer screenings are an important part of these routine exams. We also focus on dentistry for kids, periodontal care, and mouthguards for protecting your teeth - whether it is a night guard to prevent bruxism or a sports guard to protect you or your child’s teeth while playing sports.

What is Restorative Dentistry?

Restorative dentistry is just as it sounds; it helps to repair and improve the function and aesthetics of your teeth and mouth. Restorative dentistry services at our office include dental fillings, root canals, tooth extractions, dental bridges, and dental crowns.

What is Involved with Cosmetic Dentistry?

The main aim of cosmetic dentistry is to focus on improving the appearance of your teeth, gums, mouth, and overall smile. Services our patients seek in cosmetic dentistry include things such as teeth whitening, porcelain crowns, veneers, and dental bonding. These cosmetic restorations are perfect for damaged, broken, chipped, or discolored teeth.

What Do I Need to Know About Dental Implants?

Dental implants are actually part of restorative dentistry. Dental implants play an important role in keeping the jawbone healthy. You may be unaware that once a tooth is lost you also begin to lose bone mass around the site of the missing tooth. This starts to happen almost immediately as the tooth is lost, and studies have shown that as much as 25% of the bone may be lost in the first year following an extraction. Placing an implant promotes new growth and the biting and chewing forces exerted on it actually stimulate cell growth which maintains the health of the bone over time. If you think you may be a candidate for dental implants, contact our office for a consultation.

What is TMJ and is Treatment Available?

Any problem that prevents the proper use of your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is known as a TMJ disorder, or TMD. TMD may cause several problematic symptoms, some of which include:
•  Significant pain or tenderness in the jaw
•  Difficulty with everyday activities like chewing or speaking
•  Problems or pain opening and closing the jaw
•  Earaches, headaches, and shoulder pain
•  ”Lock jaw.”
•  General facial pain

The exact cause of a TMJ disorder is often hard to pinpoint, as it shares many symptoms with several other afflictions. However, problems usually arise if: the disks erode or move out of alignment, the joint is damaged by facial trauma, or the cartilage deteriorates due to arthritis. The effectiveness of your treatment is largely dictated by the source of your symptoms.
